Major changes to e-Dementia

The e-Dementia programme has been significantly updated and restructured. Suitable for health and social care professionals, the programme covers a broad range of topics, from risk reduction, dementia diagnosis and assessment through to family support, communication skills, diversity and inclusion, and end-of-life care.

Broadly, the latest changes reflect the key learning outcomes of the UK’s new Dementia Training Standards Framework. Drawing on the very latest national and international evidence, the programme is relevant to health and social care workers across the world.

Professor Murna Downs, Clinical Lead for the programme, said: “Dementia education and training continue to evolve and develop in line with an ambitious policy agenda and a growing knowledge base about best practice from the perspective of people living with dementia and their families, as well as research and clinical care. The changes to e-Dementia bring it fully in line with international policy and best practice.”

Arranged into bite-sized online learning sessions, e-Dementia helps learners to build their knowledge and skills of person-centred care. Written by leading researchers and educators from the internationally recognised University of Bradford, the programme has a particular focus on addressing the psychological and social aspects of living with dementia. The content includes many interactive exercises and video interviews featuring people living with dementia and their carers – helping learners to build empathy and understanding.
