The National Lynch Syndrome Project elearning course teaches the skills and knowledge needed for healthcare professionals to test patients effectively for Lynch syndrome and improve the identification, prevention and early detection of colorectal and endometrial cancer.
The innovative course was developed to support healthcare providers improve the delivery of diagnostic pathway for Lynch syndrome and improve the uptake of genetic testing for Lynch syndrome through integration into standard cancer clinics – creating an opportunity to detect many of these cancers at an earlier stage. This approach may also help to prevent cancers through risk reduction treatments and appropriate surveillance programmes for patients, and their at-risk family members, who are not yet aware that they have Lynch syndrome and are at risk of developing cancer.
The genetic Testing for Lynch Syndrome at endometrial cancer diagnosis, programme aims to develop the skills, knowledge, and confidence of gynaecology and gynaecological cancer care professionals in delivering testing for Lynch syndrome for patients diagnosed with endometrial cancer. This is to support implementation of the international guidelines on Lynch syndrome testing for all women with endometrial cancer. The creation of these modules has been supported by clinicians and experts from Queen Mary University of London, Barts Health NHS Trust, the North East London Cancer Alliance, and the North Central London Cancer Alliance, the North Thames Genetic Medicine Service Alliance, London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust, and the Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust.
