Example Learning Pathway

Start with the Infectious Diseases in Pregnancy Screening Programme (IDPS) course to build core skills in recognising HIV, hepatitis B and syphilis in pregnancy, understanding the actions that reduce vertical transmission, and navigating the full screening pathway. Sessions are short, structured and practical, making it easy to strengthen your confidence in key decision points and safe follow‑up.

A natural next step is the Research & Audit course, which supports your ability to apply screening insights to real‑world quality‑improvement work – such as reviewing evidence, understanding audit findings, and enhancing service pathways. This is particularly useful for screening coordinators, governance leads and maternity service managers.

From there, develop your wider influence through leadership‑focused programmes like Management and Leadership Skills, Professional Clinical Nursing Leadership, or Professional Clinical Midwifery Leadership. These courses help you guide teams confidently, support consistent screening practice and strengthen communication across maternity and laboratory services.

Finally, broaden your clinical understanding with specialty courses relevant to antenatal and newborn care—such as the Healthy Child programmes, Safeguarding Children, or Adolescent Health – to deepen your insight into family‑centred care and strengthen your ability to support pregnant people and newborns within wider health pathways.
